@NMStateSwimDive Earns WAC Sportsmanship Award

The New Mexico State women’s swimming and diving team received the annual WAC Sportsmanship honor.

DENVER – The NM State women's swimming & diving team was awarded the 2016-17 Western Athletic Conference Sportsmanship Award, the league announced on Thursday. The Aggies display of sportsmanship toward the Northern Arizona women's swimming & diving team helped New Mexico State earn the honor.

The instance that occurred was during the WAC Championships, where assistant coach Rachel Judge gave the Lumberjacks a flower in honor of NAU's swimmer Hayley Edmond, who passed away on Sept. 1, 2016, due to complications from cancer. NM State's support for the Northern Arizona team throughout the season showed the Aggies kindness and leadership, which was considered by the league a true showing of sportsmanship.

The WAC Sportsmanship Award is awarded on an annual basis and given to one WAC member institution that has demonstrated the most distinguishable act of sportsmanship throughout the academic year.
