SPRINGVILLE, UTAH. – The New Mexico State women's golf team opened the season on Monday at the Hobble Creek Fall Classic. After the first two rounds of play, the Aggies shot 288-288—576 (+8) to put the team in second place and just two strokes out of first in the 12-team tournament.
NM State saw three individuals finish in the top-15 through 36 holes.
Pun Chanachai led the way firing a 69-66—135 (-7) which put her atop the individual leaderboard on day one. Chanachai also leads the field after shooting 9 birdies on Monday.
Dominique Galloway sits in fifth with scores of 70-71—141 (-1). Shooting a seven-over, 74-74—148,
Kennedie Montoya placed in a tie for 14
th on the first day of competition.
Angela Xu, in just her third event as an Aggie, shot a 75-77—152 (+10) to finish in a tie for 27
th.
Maria Prado rounded out the Aggie starters in a tie for 45
th with scores of 77-79—156 (+14).
Heading into the final day of competition, Oral Roberts sits in first place at 574 (+6), followed by the Aggies with a total of 576 (+8) and then Grand Canyon rounds out the top-three with a 36-hole score of 588 (+20).
NM State begins the final round of competition with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. MT on Tuesday, September 12.
