FORT COLLINS, COLO. – The New Mexico State women's golf team completed the Colonel Wollenberg's Ptarmigan Ram Classic on Tuesday. After posting the best round of the tournament out of all 15 teams with a 278 (-10), the Aggies took home first place in the three-day tournament.
For the second-straight event,
Pun Chanachai led the field and captured individual medalist honors. Chanachai fired a 70-63-72—205 (-11) which included a team-leading 15 birdies.
Dominique Galloway finished tied for eighth after posting a one-under, 215, after the 54-hole Ram Classic. Just behind Galloway was senior
Kennedie Montoya, who had her best round on day three when shot a 67 (-5) to put her total score at 218 (+2) which tied the golfer for 11
th.
Maria Prado also had a strong final day of competition, shooting a round of 68 (-4) to help move the Aggies up to a tie for 32
nd with a total of 223 (+7).
Tiegan Taylor rounded out the NM State lineup, in a tie for 43
rd, after firing a 73-77-76—226 (+10).
The team improved each day with scores of 294-284-278—856 (-8) and New Mexico State finished in first place at the Ram Classic, followed by San Jose State in second at 858 (-6), while San Francisco and Colorado State tied for third at 872 (+8).
NM State has now won their first two events of the 2017-18 season. This is only the second time in program history that the Aggies have won back-to-back events to open the year, with the first coming in 1990-91.
The Aggies return home and look to carry their momentum into the NMSU Aggie Invitational, Sept. 9-11, at the NMSU University Golf Course.
