TUCSON, Ariz. – The New Mexico State men's tennis finished off the Wildcat Invitational on Sunday with six victories, including the Navy singles draw championship by
Mauri Benitez.

Doubles action kicked things off Sunday as
Luis Flores and
Louis Menard defeated Northern Arizona's Chris Steele and Sebastian Eguez 6-3 in the consolation finals.
Stijn de Haan and Benitez couldn't complete the Sunday sweep in the Cardinal doubles draw, falling to Grand Canyon's Lorenzo Fucile and Mathieu Rajaonah 6-4.

Sergi Espias gave NM State its second consolation finals win in the Cardinal singles draw in a come-from-behind victory 3-6, 6-0, 10-5. Meanwhile, Flores defeated his counterpart from San Diego State 6-3, 6-2 in the Cardinal North & South bracket while de Haan took down GCU's Fucile 7-5, 6-1.

Benitez had to fight off Grand Canyon's Lucas Grego in the third set, but came out victorious 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 to capture the Navy singles draw. The win pushed NM State's count on flight victories to three on the weekend. In addition,
Enrique Asmar also took down GCU's Justin Cvitanovic for third-place 3-6, 6-4, 10-8.

NM State won't have too much time to rest when they get back to Las Cruces, as they hit the road once again this week with the UNM Balloon Fiesta Sept. 29-Oct. 1.
