LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women's swimming and diving team held its annual Crimson and White meet Wednesday afternoon. In the intrasquad meet, the Crimson team defeated the White team 59-45.
"Today was a lot of fun and a great way to start the season," head coach
Rick Pratt stated. "We challenged them to perform 3 events in a short time in the middle of a heavy week of training and for the most part they responded well. Our legs were a little shot and we had some really sloppy swims. We've got to be better headed into our dual meets."
The meet began with the 200-yard medley relay in which sophomore
Alix Knagg and teammates
Hanna McGowan,
Reagan Nentwich and
Ashley Reynolds claimed first-place, giving seven points to team Crimson.
In the freestyle events, senior
Picabo Bender took home the victories in the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle events, which earned her 10 points. Sophomore
Grace Laporte earned five points after finishing first in the 500 freestyle. For the White team, junior
Aimee Hatfield claimed the top spot in the 50 freestyle to clinch five points.
Securing the top spot in the 100 breaststroke event, McGowan earned five points for the Crimson team while freshman Eliana Beaudry claimed five points for team White in the 100 backstroke event. Adding five more points to the Crimson team was Nentwich who finished first in the 100 butterfly.
Junior
Barbora Krizanova finished in first-place with teammates Knagg and
Lauren Wood coming in second-place and third-place, respectively, in the 200-yard IM event.
In the one-meter diving event, junior
Sheridan Decker added five more points to the Crimson team's total while
Raina Brommer finished in first-place for the three-meter diving event.
The final event of the meet was the 200-yard freestyle relay where freshman
Makena Sutherland, Rudy Rodriquez,
Johanna Pettersson and Hatfield earned team White seven more points.
The Aggies begin its 2017-18 season at home on Oct. 14 when they host Western Athletic Conference competitor Northern Colorado. Events will take place at the NM State Swimming and Dive Complex beginning at 11:30 a.m. (MT).
