@NMStateMTEN Dominates Field at Lobo Invite on Saturday

The NM State men’s tennis team notched a whopping 14 victories on Saturday at the Lobo Invitational.

ALBUQUERQUE – The New Mexico State men's tennis team had another great day on the tennis courts Saturday, claiming 14 matches on day two of the Lobo Invitational.

The dominant duo of Christofer Goncalves and Luis Flores continued their stellar play together, taking down Denver's duo 6-3 while Enrique Asmar and Sergi Espias picked up the other doubles win for NM State. However, it was against their teammates Louis Menard and Alejandro Rosas Garcia.

Goncalves did not let up in singles action, besting Abilene Christian's Niko Moceanu 6-1, 6-4 before taking down DU's Jesse Ruder-Hook 6-4, 6-2. Espias was no different and ousted ACU's Joaquin Delgado 6-3, 6-2 as well as the Pioneer's Pedro Del-Valle 7-5, 6-3.

Flores split his two matches on Saturday, defeating the Wildcat's Brad Gleason 6-2, 6-3 before falling to Denver's Sean Huynh in three sets 4-6, 7-6, 6-4. Asmar was one of five Aggies that swept both of their matches in singles action. His first win came against Air Force's Sean McKendree 7-5, 6-2. Asmar was challenged in his second match by DU's Ignatius Castilino, but pulled away in the third set for the 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win.

Benitez like the others, cruised past his foes on Saturday. The Spaniard first defeated Cole Lawson from ACU 6-1, 6-2 followed by a 6-4, 6-4 win over Denver's Castilino. Menard was the fifth Aggie to complete the sweep with wins over Aaron Diemer of DU as well as Rosas Garcia (6-0, 6-3).

The final day of action begins Sunday at 9 a.m. (MT) against Air Force in doubles action before squaring off against Abilene Christian at 10 a.m. The Aggies will get a preliminary look against Battle of I-25 rivals New Mexico in singles action at 11 a.m. when the two teams square off in a non-dual format fashion.
