EL PASO, Texas. – New Mexico State cross country competed in the Lori Fitzgerald Open at the Chamizal Memorial National Park on Friday. The women's team competed on a 4.6k course while the men's squad took on a 6.3k course. Both the NM State women's and men's teams placed third at the meet.

"Our women did a particularly good job with their pacing," assistant coach
Joseph Rath said. "Corinne [Hanson], Karoline [Klumb], and Meghan [Aguilera] managed to be patient early and were rewarded by passing the majority of the field and finishing well within the top 10."

Hanson finished first among her teammates and fifth overall at the meet, clocking in at 18:55.7. Â Klumb (19:05.3) and Aguilera (19:10.3) followed behind the sophomore, placing sixth and seventh, respectively.
Nichole Gomez finished with a time of 23:21.7 for 20
th and
Stephanie Quintero recorded a time of 23:22.0 to round out the women's squad.

"Our freshman men did a good job working together throughout the race," Rath said. "Luke [Wilke] and Dylan [Godfrey] did a good job moving up the field and made a nice improvement from their first meet."

The top runner on NM State's men's team was
Jereme Santistevan, who clocked in at 22:05.3 for fifth place. Godfrey (22:35.2) and Wilke (22:40.4) recorded top 10 finishes, placing ninth and 10
th, respectively. Â The trio of
Kurk Goodson (23:02.5)
Eric Araiza Jr. (23:04.3) and
Matt Hill (23:25.1) finished in the top-15 competitors, rounding out the men's team

NM State returns home for its next meet. The Aggies host the Kachina Classic Open on Saturday, Sept. 16.
