ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico State women's track and field team took on stellar competition during the first day of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational.
Keyarha Wilson's second place finish in the high jump highlighted the first day of the meet which took place at the ABQ Convention Center on Friday.
"We had some execution errors today but it wasn't because of a lack of effort," head coach
Doug Reynolds said. "Our team competed hard, which is what I asked them to do. We make some mistakes but it is only going to make us better in the long run. Our team battled hard today and put forth a good effort."
Wilson started her sophomore campaign with a personal best in the high jump. The Las Cruces, N.M., native jumped 1.71m (5-7.25), claiming second at the meet. Her jump boosts her into sole possession of second all-time in the indoor record books for the Crimson and White.
In her first collegiate meet,
Jess Dominguez placed third overall in the 3,000m when she clocked in at 10:38.31.
Elana Kresl followed closely behind the freshman, placing fifth with a time of 11:03.51.
Stephanie Quintero (11:04.45) and
Karolin Klumb (11:07.53) came in sixth and seventh, respectively, while
Nichole Gomez (11:09.92) and
Regina Marquez (11:10.54) rounded out the Aggies in the top-10.
In the 200m race,
Tanisha Scott was the lone New Mexico State runner to cross the finish line as she posted a solid time of 25.54, placing 43
rd among 107 competitors.
NM State concludes the meet on Saturday, Jan. 20, with the first events of the day being the shot put at 9:30 a.m. MT and the 60m hurdles at 10:15 a.m. Fans can follow along with the results from the meet at
