WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Longtime New Mexico State play-by-play man and US Bank/NM State Hall of Famer Jack Nixon was awarded the National Sports Media Association Sportscaster of the Year for the state of New Mexico.
 
This is the third time Nixon has earned national sportscaster of the year recognition after earning the same accolade in 1980 and 2013.
 
"It is gratifying to receive an award that is voted upon by your peers," said Nixon. "I am humbled and appreciated of this recognition."
 
Nixon, in his 38th season with Aggie Athletics, has been a constant throughout the years for Aggie fans and has had the call on various memorable moments in NM State history. Including, but not limited to, the last-second shot by Keith Hill in the Pan American Center to topple then-No. 7 UNLV led by Jerry Tarkanian, football's comeback against South Alabama at home to clinch bowl eligibility as well as NM State's first bowl appearance and win in 57 years at the 2017 NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl.
 
In addition, Nixon has been on the call for several NCAA Tournament appearances for men's basketball, women's basketball, volleyball and softball.
 
The Nebraska native recently received the Mayor's Distinguished Service Award in 2016 and is a seven-time New Mexico Broadcaster's Association Sportscaster of the Year.
 
He's also an active member of the Las Cruces community since joining the Aggies. Nixon served as a board member of the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) from 2001-03 and is in his eighth year as a volunteer at the Mesilla Valley Hospice.
