ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico State women's track and field team took on top competition during the final day of the Don Kirby Invitational at the ABQ Convention Center on Saturday.

"This weekend, we saw many tactical and physical adjustments that we've been looking for.," head coach
Doug Reynolds said. "As we prepare for the WAC Indoor Championships in two weeks, it is imperative that we begin to connect the dots and put together complete performances."
The Aggies saw success with
Lashira Tremble placing sixth when she clocked in at 7.60 in the 60m dash preliminaries. For the semifinals, the sophomore recorded a time of 7.66.

Cassey Amberg posted a season-best time of 5:12.92 in the mile to place 16
th overall.
Sydney Salas finished in 19
th in the event, clocking in at 5:17.65 for her second personal record of the meet.
Elana Kresl rounded out the NM State runners in the top-20 as she posted a time of 5:18.58.

In the 60m hurdles,
Arniesha Mitchell qualified for the event semifinals when she placed fifth in the preliminaries by clocking in at 8.76. In the semifinals, she posted a new personal best time of 8.61.

In the triple jump,
Hannah Smith jumped 11.81m (38-9) to finish in 20
th place. Â
Jocelyn Jordan also competed in the event and posted a mark of 10.60m (34-9.5).

"I believe that as we freshen up physically and begin our final preparations mentally, we will show a much improved complete picture as we take on the league and compete for a WAC title," Reynolds said.

The Aggies take on the best from the Western Athletic Conference at the 2018 Indoor Championship beginning on Feb. 22.
