Aggies Conclude Run at New Mexico Classic

New Mexico State track and field closed out their third meet of the season on Saturday.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico State women's track and field team competed in the final day of the New Mexico Classic at the ABQ Convention Center on Saturday, Feb. 3.

"This weekend was a great opportunity for our team to learn and make adjustments. We saw some of the NCAA's best teams and it gave us a clear picture of where we are and where we are headed," head coach Doug Reynolds said. "Like most meets, we had some good performances as well as some that we wish we could change. The key is that we learn from both and make adjustments moving forward."

The Aggies saw success in the 60m dash when Lashira Tremble clocked in at 7.58 for third in the preliminaries. The personal record time for the sophomore ranks fourth all-time in the indoor record books. The reigning Western Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Freshman of the Year followed the performance by running 7.64 in the semifinals. Tanisha Scott also posted a solid performance, clocking in at 7.70 in the event preliminaries.

In the 60m hurdles preliminaries, Nia Garcia placed fifth with a time of 8.81, which was a new personal best for the sophomore. She also clocked in at 8.81 in the event semifinals. Arniesha Mitchell posted a time of 9.05, which placed her in 14th during the event preliminaries.

Jess Dominguez posted a strong showing for the second-straight day as she recorded a time of 5.20.22 in the mile. Julia Yescas followed closely behind the freshmen, clocking in at 5:24.45.

On the field, Yemisi Oroyinyin threw 12.72m (41-8.75) in the shot put to place 11th. In the triple jump, Jocelyn Jordan finished in 13th when she posted a mark of 11.19 (36-8.5).

"Next week is our last opportunity to make a statement about who we are as a program before we head to the WAC Championships," Reynolds said. "I expect our team to make that statement loud and clear."

The Aggies are back in Albuquerque, N.M., for the two-day Don Kirby Invitational, beginning on Friday, Feb. 9.
