DENVER –
Katara Nelson was named the Western Athletic Conference Women'sTrack Athlete of the Week the league announced on Tuesday. This is the first award of Nelson's senior campaign and the Aggies first accolade of the outdoor season.
Nelson shattered the New Mexico State program record in the 400m at the Willie Williams Classic last weekend when she posted a time of 52.40. She took second in the event overall and first among collegiate athletes. The senior not only leads the WAC in the 400m but Nelson also ranks first in the NCAA in the event.
The 400m was not Nelson's only event as she raced in a pair of relays at the meet. She helped her 4x100m team to post a time of 45.30 in the event which ranks 41
st in the NCAA. The sprinter also ran the 4 x 400m relay where the team placed fourth when they recorded a time of 3:48.11.
The Aggies are back in action for the UTEP Springtime on Saturday, March 24. The one-day meet begins with the women's hammer throw kicking things off at 10 a.m. MT. Running events begin with the 4x100m relay at 2 p.m. Fans can follow along with the live results from the meet at
