#SuperJJ Named Associated Press All-American

NM State men’s basketball forward Jemerrio Jones became the fifth Aggie to be named an AP All-American.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State senior forward Jemerrio Jones was named an Associated Press All-American Honorable Mention on Wednesday, and became just the fifth Aggie men's basketball player to earn AP All-America accolades.

Jones also became the ninth Aggie player to earn All-America status ever and the third-straight NM State player to achieve AP All-America Honorable Mention status. The Memphis, Tenn., product joins James Moore (2003), Daniel Mullings (2014), Pascal Siakam (2016) and Ian Baker (2017) as the only players to have earned AP All-America honors.

The reigning WAC Player of the Year finished his senior season averaging 11.0 points, 13.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists. The 13.2 boards per game this year was good for second-most in the nation while his 450 total rebounds leads all players in the NCAA heading into the Final Four. In addition, his 9.50 defensive rebounds per game topped all Division I players while his 3.74 offensive rebounds per game is good for 10th-best in the country.

His 21 double-doubles tied him for sixth-most in the NCAA while his lone triple-double tied him for third. Jones then became just the third Aggie to record a triple-double when he posted 10 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists against Eastern New Mexico.

Jones also became the first person this century to record 20-plus rebounds in three-consecutive games during the heart of conference play against UT Rio Grande Valley, CSU Bakersfield and Grand Canyon.

Jones then led New Mexico State to its second-straight Western Athletic Conference Tournament Championship and sixth NCAA Tournament appearance in seven years. After guiding the Aggies to three wins in three days while averaging 11.7 points and 18.7 rebounds, Jones was named the WAC Tournament MVP.
On top of collecting WAC Player of the Year, First-Team All-WAC, WAC All-Defensive Team and WAC Tournament MVP honors, Jones also hauled in NABC First-Team District 6 and USBWA All-District VIII Team accolades.

Jones will graduate from New Mexico State as one of the best rebounders in program history. He leaves the Crimson & White third all-time in career rebounds at 10.8 boards per game while his 737 career rebounds is tied for eighth all time despite playing just two season in Las Cruces. His senior campaign saw him haul in 450 rebounds, which is good for second-most in a single-season behind Aggie legend Sam Lacey (493, 1969-70), while his 13.2 rebounds per game in 2017-18 is tied for third-best.
