DENVER – The New Mexico State women's golf team was selected to win the 2018 Western Athletic Conference title. In a vote by the league's head coaches, who could not vote for their own team, the Aggies received six of eight first-place votes as favorites to win their fifth consecutive conference championship.
 
Grand Canyon picked up the remaining two first-place votes and second place with 41 points. Seattle U edged out Utah Valley by a point for third place with 34 points. Kansas City was picked fifth with 27 points, followed by UT Rio Grande Valley (19), CSU Bakersfield (15) and Chicago State (7).
 
At the end of the regular season, the Aggies finished in the top-10 in six of their nine tournaments this year. The strong play features two first-place victories and a second place finish in the season finale.
 
Sophomore Pun Chanachai is looking to defend the individual title after leading the WAC in stroke average during the regular season at 73.0 strokes per round. Among six golfers, NM State has registered 14 top-10 finishes and 23 finishes in the top-25 on the individual leaderboard.
 
The 2018 WAC Women's Golf Championship takes place April 16-18 at The Legacy Golf Club in Phoenix, Ariz.
