SAN DIEGO – The New Mexico State women's track and field took on top competition at the Triton Invitational on Saturday. The Aggies continued to show improvements as they closed their run at the Triton Track and Field Stadium.
Katara Nelson placed first in the 400m as the senior clocked in at 52.53.
Lashira Tremble recorded a new personal best in the 100m dash when the sophomore posted a time of 11.85.
Tanisha Scott clocked in at 24.29 to take second in the 200m dash.
In the 100m hurdles,
Arniesha Mitchell recorded a time of 14.01 for seventh place while
Nia Garcia placed eighth with a time of 14.10. In the 5,000m
Nichole Gomez finished in 11th when she recorded a time of 18:30.72.
Keyarha Wilson finished in third when the sophomore posted a season-best mark of 1.70m (5-7) in the high jump.
Hannah Smith also competed in the event, jumping 1.62m (5-3.75). In the long jump, Smith recorded a mark of 5.83m (19-1.5) for a new personal record that also ranks ninth in the NM State records.
In the open shot put event,
Yemisi Oroyinyin took home fifth when she threw 14.29m (46-10.75).
Jocelyn Jordan finished in fourth in the triple jumped when the senior posted a mark of 12.10m (39-8.5).
The 4 x 400m relay of Tremble, Garcia, Mitchell and
Dominique Joiner placed fifth when they posted a time of 3:57.53.
The Aggies return to the Golden State for their next meet as the team compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif., beginning on Thursday, April 19.
