AZUSA, Calif. – The New Mexico State women's track and field took on top competition at the in California this weekend. The Aggies faced top competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific as well as the Pacific Coast Invitational and the Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach State.
In Thursday night action, the Aggies set multiple personal bests including
Corinne Hanson who ran 11:12.60 in the 3,000m steeplechase. Freshman
Jess Dominguez placed fifth in her heat of the 5,000m when she clocked in at 17:03.68.
Sydney Salas also competed in the event and posted a time of 17:11.93.
Cassey Amberg recorded a time of 17:29.26 to place ninth in her heat.
Arniesha Mitchell and
Nia Garcia competed in the 100m hurdles in a pair of meets. Mitchell ran 14.14 at the Bryan Clay Invitational and Garcia ran 14.73 at the meet. At the Pacific Coast Invitational, Mitchell clocked in at 13.90 for eighth while Garcia ran 14.08 to place 12th.
Katara Nelson competed in the 100m for the first time this season and placed seventh when she clocked in at 11.86. Her time ranks second in the Aggie outdoor records.
In the 10,000m,
Kelli Kirkpatrick clocked in at 39:00.81 while
Stephanie Quintero posted a time of 39:20.46 at the Beach Invitational. The pair placed fifth and seventh, respectively.
The 4 x 100m relay team of Nelson,
Tanisha Scott,
Dominique Joiner and
Lashira Tremble placed first at the Pacific Coast Invitational when the team posted a time of 45.76.
At the Pacific Coast Invitational,
Taylor Stutely placed seventh in the discus when she came away with a mark of 48.61m (159-06) for a new personal best. The throw ranks third in the NM State record books.
Taniya Mitchell posted a mark of 13.47m (44-2.50) in the shot put.
Yemisi Oroyinyin also competed in the event and recorded a throw of 13.27m (43-6.50).
The Aggies compete at the Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach State on Saturday, April 21. The meet begins with the women's high jump at 12:30 p.m. MT. Fans can follow along with live results
