Wang Signs Two for Next Season

The NM State women’s tennis team added a a pair of players for the next season head coach Emily Wang announced.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State head women's tennis coach Emily Wang announced the signing of two players to National Letters of Intent to play for the Aggies next season.
 
Wang adds a transfers in Neus Torregrosa and freshman in Chloe Gavino for next season. Gavin is originally from Arizona while Torregrosa comes from Mallorca – a city on the island of Palma that is a part of the Balearic Islands off the eastern coast of Spain.

2017-18 (Barton CC): Opened the season with four-straight wins, including wins against a pair of ranked players…currently 7-3 in singles play for the Barton Community College…took down then No. 20 Kristela Vidnere of Cowley Community College (4/5) 6-2, 6-4…
 
2016-17 (Barton CC): Led Barton Community College to the semifinal round NJCAA Division I National Tennis Championships as a freshman…the ninth-place team finish is the best finish in program history…was named the ITA District III Rookie of the Year for her performance and was selected as the NJCAA Jovana Vasic Spirit of Competition Award by the coaches and officials at the championships…teamed up with Idah Longwe to capture the NJCAA Region VI Doubles Championship...named to ITA All-America Team for doubles…finished the regular season 12-4 at the top singles position for the Cougars and 12-6 in doubles play…recorded her first collegiate victory against Midland University's Annie Allmand 6-0, 6-2.
 
Before NM State: Played in several ITF circuit tournaments in Spain and Europe…registered an opening-round win at the Palmanova ITF Tournament in 2015 against Tina Tehrani 6-4, 6-2.
 
Personal: Daughter of Dinisio Torregrosa and Maria Parets…majoring in Spanish.
 
"Neus is a fierce competitor and keeps her eye on the prize," said Wang. "She is going to bring focus and a competitive edge to the team and we are excited to have her join the squad this fall."

High School: Three start recruit according to TennisRecruiting.net…played tennis her freshman and senior year at Catalina Foothills High School at the No. 1 singles position…named to first-team in singles by Tucson.com as a freshman…reached the finals of the 48th Annual Jim Reffkin High School Invitational in January of 2018…claimed the singles championship at the Cowboy Championship BG L6 Tournament in September for 2017…advanced to the finals of the Cactus Cup Junior L5 Tournament as well as the 47th Annual High School Invitational that same year in both singles and doubles…advanced to the championship draw at the Racketbusters Jr. Masters L4 Tournament in singles and semifinals in doubles in 2016…won the Cowboy Classic BG L6 Tournament earlier that year…was a quarterfinalist at the Jeff Myers Memorial Jr. Masters L4 Tournament as well for singles and doubles…reached the championship round in both singles and doubles at the 46th Annual High School Invitational a week earlier…was a quarterfinalist at the USTA Open Regional Tournament in 2015 while reaching the semis at the Phoenix L5 Challenger Tournament a month before…advanced to the semis in singles and finals in doubles at the Tucson Open Junior Championship in September of that year before reaching the semis in for both at the El Conquistador Tennis Tournament.
 
Personal: Daughter of Andre and Tricia Gavino…has a younger sister, Gwendolyn…undecided on major.
 
"Chloe is a hard working player who never gives up," remarked Wang. "She is going to be a very positive and key contributor in singles and doubles this coming year."
