DENVER – Katara Nelson was named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. This is the third award of Nelson's senior campaign.
Nelson set a program in all three events she competed in at the Desert Heat Classic this past weekend. The senior ran 51.98 in her only individual event to claim first place. With her time, she is now ranked seventh on the NCAA combined performance list and second in the west region. She also set a new NM State record in the 4 x 100m (44.66) and in the 4 x 400m (4:40.37). The 4 x 100m relay squad's time is also tied for 48th in the nation.
For the team's next meet, the Aggies get set to take on the top competition from the Western Athletic Conference at the 2018 WAC Championships. The four-day meet takes place in Lawrence, Kan., and is set to begin on May 9
