LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Enrique Asmar and Stijn de Haan of the New Mexico State men's tennis team were recognized for their excellence in the classroom on Thursday and named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Team for District 7 as selected by College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA).

This is the second-straight year Asmar and de Haan have earned such accolade. The Academic All-District Teams are nominated and voted on by members of the CoSIDA and has been recognizing student-athletes for their academic achievements since 1952.

A product of Veldhoven, Netherlands, de Haan currently owns a 3.9 grade point average in aerospace engineering. The 6-4 righty wrapped up his junior campaign with 17 wins in singles action and 4-1 in WAC play. He then teamed up with Mauri Benitez to go 21-11 at season's end with a 14-6 record in dual play.

Asmar sports a 3.96 GPA in civil engineering and was one of five Aggies to conclude the 2017-18 season with at least 20 singles victories. The Barranquilla, Colombia, native finished his junior year 22-14 in singles play. Asmar and doubles teammate Louis Menard played critical roles in the dual season, going 12-4 in the spring together at the No. 3 slot.

In addition, both Asmar and de Haan have been recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association as scholar-athletes back-to-back years to top of earning WAC All-Academic Honors.

The two helped guide NM State to its third Western Athletic Conference Tournament Championship in four years earlier this spring. That win saw NM State compete in just its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, with first- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees to be announced in June.
