SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The season came to a close for the New Mexico State women's track and field team on Saturday when the squad finished competition from Hornet Stadium at the NCAA West Preliminaries.
Hannah Smith competed in the last triple jump of her junior campaign while the 4 x 100m relay ran its final race of the season.
"The team competed hard this weekend and represented NM State well," head coach
Doug Reynolds said. "Unfortunately, we did not have anyone advance to Eugene, Ore., but these girls have had an amazing season. I am very proud of the year they've put together."
Smith started the day with the triple jump and the junior posted a mark of 12.38m (40-7.5). She finished 10
th in her heat and 37th overall.
The 4 x 100m relay team of
Dominique Joiner,
Katara Nelson,
Tanisha Scott, and
Lashira Tremble posted a time of 45.78 in the event. The squad finished eighth in its heat and 23rd overall.
Nelson closed out her career as the program's leader in the 200m (23.04) and 400m (51.98). The relay team also came away from its 2018 campaign with a season best time of 44.66, the fastest in the NM State record books.
