FRESHMAN (2014-15):  Sonnenschein had an extremely successful first year with the Aggies and positioned herself as one of the programs top flyers. Prior to starting classes at NM State, Sonnenschein represented Mozambique at the Commonwealth games in Scotland and also swam at the World Junior Olympic Games in China. Sonnenschein was also fortunate to represent Mozambique at the All-African by finishing in third place in the 100 fly.

At the WAC Championship meet Sonnenschein finished sixth in the 100 fly with a time of 55.67, which was the fourth fastest in program history.

HIGH SCHOOL: Sonnenschein is originally from Amsterdam in the Netherlands, but she has spent most of her life growing up in Africa and also has citizenship in Mozambique. Over the summer she competed at the Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China as a representative of Mozambique; she got to carry the country’s flag during the opening ceremonies. She has qualified for the Mozambique National Team and has a good shot at making the Olympic team.  Sonnenschein swims the butterfly and freestyle events.  She has best times of 1:03.59 (LCM) in the 100 fly and 59.80 (LCM) in the 100 free.
