Biography

2012-13 (Senior)

In his final season with the Aggies, Sy was a first team All-WAC honoree. He led the Aggies in rebounding with 7.3 rebounds per game and was second on the squad in scoring with 11.9 points per game. Sy was the only Aggie to start in all 35 games in 2012-13. At the conclusion of his career, Sy ranked 10th on NM State’s games played list with 119. As a senior, he posted four double-doubles and four 20-point games. Sy earned WAC Player of the Week honors (Feb. 4). He garnered the award after a 24-point and 13-rebound game at Texas State (Jan. 31). Sy was 9-of-11 from the field including 2-of-2 from the 3-point line in the 86-72 win over the Bobcats. He followed that performance with 17 points and seven rebounds on 8-of-12 shooting in the 75-62 win at UTSA (Feb. 2).  Sy recorded career-high marks in his senior campaign with 25 points against UTSA (Jan. 3) and 15 rebounds versus Idaho (Feb. 7). In his final game in the Crimson and White, Sy scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds and three steals against No. 13 Saint Louis in the NCAA Tournament (March 21).

2011-12 (Junior)

In his third season in the Crimson and White, Sy played in all 36 games and started in two contests. He averaged 8.8 points and 4.0 rebounds per game and shot 45.5 percent from the field (121-of-266) and 32.8 percent from the 3-point line (40-of-122). His 40 baskets from beyond the arc ranked third on the team. Sy also provided 38 assists, 22 steals and 23 blocked shots, which was third on the squad. Sy swatted a career-high four shots against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Jan. 31). He recorded 12 double-digit games as a junior. Sy began the season with four consecutive double-figure games that helped the Aggies to a 4-0 start. It was only the third 4-0 start for NM State since the 1992-93 season. At Hawai’i (Jan. 21), Sy posted his first career double-double with 17 points, a season-high 10 rebounds and a season-high four assists. He scored a season-high 22 points in the come-from-behind 83-78 overtime win at Fresno State (March 3). Sy helped the Aggies erase a 19-point second half deficit with 20 second-half points. In the Aggies’ 19th NCAA Tournament appearance, Sy scored 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting including a 2-of-3 showing from the 3-point line against No. 17 Indiana.

2010-11 (Sophomore)

As a sophomore, Sy played in all 33 games and started in 20 contests for the Aggies. He averaged 4.7 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. From the field, Sy shot 37.3 percent (50-of-134) and 72.5 percent (37-of-51) at the free-throw line. Sy was fourth on the team in 3-pointers made with 19 in 2010-11, and he had six games with multiple baskets from beyond the arc. Sy added 29 assists, 16 steals and nine blocked shots. In the home opener against Western New Mexico (Nov. 15), he grabbed season-high nine rebounds. The next game, Sy reached double-digits for the first time in his career with 10 points at Arizona (Nov. 18) including a 2-of-4 performance from the 3-point line. He posted four double-figure games as a sophomore. Sy had a season-high 15 points and six rebounds against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Dec. 13) in his first start of the season. He followed that showing with 12 points and five rebounds against Oklahoma Panhandle State (Dec. 16). In WAC play, Sy had his best offensive game with 11 points at Boise State (Dec. 31). Sy also recorded a career-high five assists in the ESPNU BracketBuster game against Northern Colorado (Feb. 19).

2009-10 (Freshman)

In his freshman campaign, Sy appeared in 15 games for the Aggies and started the season opener at Saint Mary’s (Nov. 13). He shot 39.1 percent from the field and averaged 1.5 points and 0.9 rebounds per game. Sy played a season-high 19 minutes in the 83-73 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State (Nov. 21), as he scored four points and posted four rebounds and two assists, both season-high marks. At UCLA (Dec. 15), Sy tallied a season-high six points on a 2-for-3 shooting performance from the 3-point line.

High School

Sy joined the Aggies after the 2008-09 season at Stoneridge Prep in Simi Valley, Calif. He averaged 18 points and four rebounds a game. Sy attended the Adidas National Tournament in the summer of 2008 and 2009. At the Douais Tournament, he was named the best wing player and played in the all-star game. In August 2007, Sy was selected to attend the Basketball without Borders Europe in Paris, France. The NBA and FIBA conduct the camp as part of the NBA’s global basketball development and community outreach program.

Personal

Sy is the son of Tabara Sy, and he was born in Paris, France. He is majoring in business.
