Junior: Hipp finished off his junior campaign at
NM State as he did his sophomore campaign, by being honored as a second-team
All-WAC player. Hipp started at second
base for the Aggies during all 59 games of the 2012 season, finishing with a
.929 fielding percentage and a team-high 148 assists. His .349 batting average was good enough for
second-best on the Aggie squad and third-best among WAC players. Hipp was also second on the team and the WAC
in walks with 57 on the season, trailing only teammate Tanner Waite who led the
nation in walks. Hipp's 57 walks placed
him sixth in the nation. The combination
of Hipp's hitting ability and patience at the plate helped him lead the team
and the WAC in on-base percentage. His
.488 on-base percentage was the 12th highest in the country. Hipp also finished ranked nationally in
sacrifice flies. His team and
WAC-leading eight sacrifice flies on the season placed him 11th in
the nation.
Hipp also ranked second on the NM State team and sixth in
the WAC with 73 hits on the season, including 22 multiple-hit games,
second-best on the team. He was also
third on the Aggie squad in doubles (17) and RBIs (49). His doubles total put him in a tie for fourth
place among WAC players and his RBI total placed him in fourth among WAC
players.
Hipp had a season-high three hits a total of four times
during the 2012 season. The first came
during the opening series of the season versus Wake Forest (Feb. 19), where
Hipp's three hits included two doubles and three RBIs. During a game in the next home series, versus
Sacred Heart (Feb. 24), Hipp once again had three RBIs and hit his lone home
run of the season. He would go on to
have 12 multiple RBI games during the season, including having three RBIs a
couple more times for a total of four three-RBI games. Hipp's season-high in RBIs, however, came at
San Jose State (May 20) when he finished with four RBIs on two hits.
Hipp will begin his senior campaign in 2013 as a member of
the Louisville Slugger Pre-Season All-American baseball team.
Sophomore: Hipp was an important member of an Aggie
team that led the Western Athletic Conference in almost all major offensive
statistics in 2011. Hipp played in a total of 49 games, starting in 47 of
those, including 45 starts at second base and two as the designated hitter. He
was second on the Aggie roster in batting average (.396), home runs (6), RBIs
(58), slugging percentage (.574), on-base percentage (.507) and stolen bases
(7). Hipp led the Aggies in multiple-hit games with 23, including a five-hit
game against Sacramento State (5/7). He was also the co-leader in multiple-RBI
games with 17, including three four-RBI games against San Francisco (3/5), IPFW
(3/20) and Northern Colorado (4/2). Hipp also had a 13-game hitting streak during
the season which started against IPFW on March 18, and ended against Louisiana
Tech on April 8.
On the defensive side, Hipp finished with 79 put-outs, 105
assists and a .953 fielding percentage.
During the season Hipp was named the WAC Hitter of the Week
for the week of Feb. 14-20 and again for the week of Feb.28-Mar. 6. At the end
of the season Hipp was named to the All-WAC second-team. He was also named to
the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Midwest Region Team.
Freshman: Hipp played in 51 for the Aggies in 2010,
starting in 42 games. He had 58 hits with 37 RBI and tallied 10 doubles, one
triple and one home run on the year. He finished the season with a .349 batting
average. Hipp was second on the team in stolen bases with five and third in the
team in stolen base percentage with .833. During a win at Houston Baptist (4/3)
Hipp stole two bases. Two stand out games in the hitting column for Hipp were
the win at UC Santa Barbara (3/21) and a tie game against Nevada (4/11). In
final game of the series against UC-Santa Barbara (3/21) he hit 4-for-5 with
one RBI. In a 10-10 tie against Nevada (4/11) Hipp went 4-for-4 at the plate
including a double and a triple, while he crossed the plate three times and
posted two RBI.
High School: Hipp went to Cathedral Catholic High
School in San Diego, Calif.
In his senior year, Hipp had 38 runs, 40 hits, 32 RBI and a
batting average of .388. Hipp was named San Diego All-CIF (second team),
all-Western League, Cathedral Defensive Play of the Year and had a 43-game
streak over a two-year period without an error at second base. In his junior
year, Hipp had 24 runs, 42 hits, 28 RBI and a batting average of .457. In his
last two years in high school, Hipp helped the team finish San Diego CIF
Division III Champions. As a sophomore, Hipp and his team made the San Diego
CIF Division III semifinals. Hipp not only played baseball, but football and
basketball. Hipp was successful in aiding his team to the playoffs in
basketball and championship games in baseball and football.
Personal: Hipp is the son of Michael Hipp and Ginger
Phillips-Hipp. He was born in San Diego, Calif. He majoring in Business.
