New Mexico State University Athletics

Sophomore: Montoya made 24 appearances as a middle-relief pitcher in 2011, second-most among relief pitchers for the Aggies.  He pitched a total of 17.1 innings and had 15 strikeouts while allowing only one home run.  He had two strikeouts in one inning of relief appearance twice, once against Buffalo (2/27) and again against Northern Colorado (4/2).  Montoya also appeared in relief during both games of a double-header against Louisiana Tech (4/9), not allowing any runs and striking out one batter.

Freshman: Montoya made two appearances as a true freshman striking out one batter and giving up five runs.  His strikeout came in his first appearance, which was against Saint Joseph's (3/7).

High School:  Montoya played four years of baseball at Onate High School in Las Cruces, N.M.  He earned a varsity letter all four years and was a second team all-district selection in 2007, after leading his team to a second place finish in district.  Montoya followed that up with a first team all-district honor and a second team all-state award in 2008 as he led his team to a district title, while his team finished second in state.  He was also an all-district selection, all-region selection and an all-state selection in 2009 after he led the Knights to a 22-9 record.

Personal:  Montoya is the son of Rick and Tami Montoya.  He was born and raised in Las Cruces, N.M. and is majoring in Sociology.  His brother, Richard Montoya played for the Aggies in the late 90's, and his father is an electrician at NM State.
