Junior: For the second consecutive season Beck
led NM State in starts (16), innings pitched (97.2), earned run average (4.24)
and strikeouts (97). He finished the
2012 season with a 5-7 record. Beck's 97
strikeouts were also the best among WAC pitchers and ranked him 47th
in the nation.
Beck was the starter when the Aggies opened their season
against Wake Forest (Feb. 17). He
proceeded to pitch 5.2 innings, allow only one run and strikeout seven batters
in clinching his and NM State's first victory of the season. After a no-decision his next start, Beck ran
his record to 2-0 with a 16-2 win over Sacred Heart (Feb. 26). Beck pitched five strong innings and struck
out a season-high nine batters. He would
go on to strike out nine batters once again the following month versus
Southeast Missouri State (Mar. 16) while pitching seven innings. Along with his two nine-strikeout games, Beck
also had three eight-strikeout games and another three seven-strikeout
games. Beck pitched at least five innings
in all but one of his starts. He pitched
a season-high eight innings versus Nebraska (Mar. 3) while allowing only two
earned runs, but received a no-decision after the Aggies could not hold on to a
late lead. Beck also allowed only four
homeruns all season, not allowing more than one home run in any single game.
Sophomore: As
a sophomore, Beck became the ace of the Aggie starting rotation in 2011. Not
only did he lead the team in games started (15) and innings pitched (90.2),
Beck also led the Aggie pitching squad with 10 wins, becoming only the fifth
pitcher in NM State history with at least 10 wins in a season. Beck also led
the Aggie pitching squad with a 5.96 ERA and 73 strikeouts on the season, 19 of
which were batters that were caught looking, also a team high.
During the game against New Mexico in Albuquerque (Feb. 22),
Beck pitched seven strong innings, allowing no earned runs and earning his
first victory of the season. His next start, against Buffalo (Feb. 27), Beck
had 11 strikeouts, a team high for the season, en route to his second win.
Freshman: Beck made 26 appearances on the hill for
the Aggies in 2010 with seven game starts during the season. Beck pitched a
total of 58.2 innings for the Aggies posting 52 strikeouts for NM State with
his season-high nine K's coming against the University of South West (2/24).
Beck earned his first win against Nevada (4/9) and pitched a season-high of 6.0
innings against Sacramento State (4/25) and Univ. of South West (2/24). He
finished the season with a 6.90 ERA.
High School: Beck played baseball at Fort Collins
High School. As a junior he was named a first team all-conference selection, a
first team Denver Post all-state selection, and was the runner-up for the
Conference Player of the Year award. That year he worked 40.0 innings and had a
7-1 record with 52 strikeouts. He also finished with a .422 batting average on
64 at-bats. In 2007, Beck was named second team all-conference after he threw
for 47 innings and tallied 51 K's. In 2006 and 2007, his team finished as
district champions.
Personal: Beck is the son of Don and Kathy Beck. He
was born in Fort Collins, Colo. and is majoring in Civil Engineering.
