2009 Outdoor (Junior): In her third season in Crimson and White, McConnell not only had a successful season on the field but also had an impressive year in the classroom. At the season opener, the Willie Williams Invitational (March 20), McConnell recorded a season-best distance in the javelin after recording a mark of 97-9. In the discus throw, she recorded a season-best throw of 134-8 at the UTEP Invitational (April 11), which ranks ninth on NM State’s all-time record list. In the classroom, McConnell earned a very prestigious award in her field of Physical Education, which was the National Association for Sports and Physical Recreation (NASPE) Physical Education Major of the Year award.
2008 Outdoor (Sophomore): McConnell competed in the throwing events for the Aggies, adding strong depth to the squad during the outdoor season. She recorded a personal-best throw in the hammer at the WAC Championships (May 15-17) when she threw for 139-07, which ranked her 10th on the NMSU all-time record list. In the shot put, McConnell recorded a season-best mark at the UTEP Invitational (April 12), with a mark of 35-10. At the Springtime Invitational (March 29), she threw for a distance of 135-5 in the discus.
Indoor: During the indoor season McConnell competed in the weight throw and the shot put. At the Texas Tech Invitational (Jan. 26) she recorded a toss of 36-03.50 in the shot put which placed her 11th overall. In the weight throw, McConnell recorded her longest distance of the season at the Southwest Hose Classic (Feb. 16), with a launch of 44-0.75.
2007 Outdoor (Freshman): McConnell added strong depth in the throwing events for NMSU. At the Triton Invitational (April 21), she posted a life time best in the discuss throw with a launch of 131-03, which also places her 10th on the all-time NMSU outdoor record list. She also recorded a lifetime best in the shot put with a mark of 40-9. At the Don Kirby Memorial Invitational (April 28), she posted a season best mark of 141-08 in the hammer throw.
Indoor: At the Texas Tech Open (Feb. 23), McConnell recorded personal bests in the shot put and in the weight throw with marks of 39-7.75 and 42-7, respectively.
High School: McConnell competed in track & field and was a four year letter winner. She placed second in district for shot put and discus in 2004 and earned sixth place at the state meet in the shot put and 11th in the discus. She also holds the school record for shot put, throwing 40-5.75 in 2005. Jennifer was third in the shot put and 12th in the discus in state competition as a senior.
Personal: McConnell is the daughter of Vonda and Randal McConnell, Sr. and she is majoring in Physical Education.
