@NMStateWSOC Headed to the WAC Tournament

The NM State women’s soccer team will be the No. 5 seed and face the No. 4 seed Utah Valley on Thursday, Nov. 3, at 3 p.m. to open the WAC Tournament.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – With the regular-season in the books, the NM State women's soccer team looks to make a run at the Western Athletic Conference Tournament this week. The four-day conference tournament is set to start on Thursday, Nov. 3, at 3 p.m. (MT) with NM State taking on the No. 4 seed Utah Valley and end on Sunday, Nov. 6, at noon with the championship match. All five matches during the tournament will be live-streamed on the WAC Digital Network.

QUICK HITS
  • With its win on Saturday, NM State is now 4-1-0 all-time when playing its final regular-season match at home.
  • Freshman Kelly Burton made her second-career start on the backline last Saturday against UTRGV.
  • Audriana Chavez picked up her third assists this season on Saturday when she found Aileen Galicia for the game-winning goal.
  • The win against UTRGV also gave the Aggies the 3-2 lead in the all-time series.
  • NM State is now 4-1-1 on the year when it scores first in matches.
  • The win on Saturday also gave head coach Freddy Delgado his 15th win at NM State. Delgado needs another win to tie Michael Needham (16, 2009-10) and three wins to pass his predecessor, Blair Quinn (17), and become the winningest coach in program history.

WAC TOURNAMENT ACTION
  • The fifth-seeded Aggies are set to play in the WAC Tournament, beginning this Thursday, Nov. 3, against the No. 4 seed Utah Valley.
  • TJ Jackson will have the call for the entire WAC Tournament while FC Kansas City forward Shea Groom handles analyst duties.
  • NM State settled for a 2-2 draw against UVU during the regular season behind the play of Holly Abdelkader, who fired in both goals for the Aggies.
  • Thursday's contest against the Wolverines will be the first time the two teams have squared off in the conference tournament with NM State trailing the all-time series 0-3-2.
  • New Mexico State is 2-4-0 all-time at the conference tournament. It's last win at the WAC Tournament came in 2014 when the Aggies defeated CSU Bakersfield 3-0 in Seattle.

MOVIN' ON UP
  • As the regular-season concludes, here is where some current players stand on the all-time record book.
  • Aileen Galicia's 29 points (12g, 5a) is good for fifth all-time while Holly Abdelkader sits in sixth with 24 points (9g, 6a).
  • Galicia's 12 goals also has her sitting in fourth all-time in that category, while Abdelkader is tied for sixth with nine and Devin Hart tied for ninth with six.
  • Galicia and Abdelkader are tied for fourth all-time with three game-winning goals apiece.
  • Senior Gabby Campbell is fourth all-time in the assists category with eight while Abdelkader sits in sixth with six and Galicia tied for ninth with five.
  • With her two saves against UTRGV, Ashley Martin is now tied with Jessica Schutter (2009-13) as the career leader in saves with 142.
  • Campbell is set to tie Jennae Cambra (2011-14) for the program lead with 81 games played on Thursday and could take the lead should the Aggies advance to the semifinals.
  • Campbell's 4340 minutes played is good for ninth all-time and needs just four minutes of action to pass Yolanda McMillion (4343, 2009-12) for eighth all-time on Thursday.

SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES
  • NM State and Utah Valley will square off once again this Thursday, Nov. 3, at 3 p.m. (MT) in the opening match of the WAC Tournament on the WAC Digital Network.
  • The last time these two teams squared off, Holly Abdelkader single-handedly brought the Aggies back from being down 2-0 to tying the game up with back-to-back goals.
  • The Wolverines dropped their final match of the regular-season at home at the hands of the league champion, Seattle U, 3-1.
  • Alexis Peterson (5g, 2a), Breanna DeWaal (4g, 4a) and Taylor Kirk (4g, 4a) paces Utah Valley with 12 points each while Breanna McCarter (3g, 4a) checks in with 10 points to round out the double-digit point scorers for UVU.
  • Peterson's five goals on the year is good for the team-lead while DeWaal and Kirk trail her with just four goals each.
  • Brooklyn Nielsen has been a rock between the pipes for the Wolverines, posting a 0.95 goals against average and .783 saves percentage with four shutouts.
  • The UVU defense has heled UVU to just 1.22 goals per game and just 10.8 shots per game to its 16.7 shots per game.

LAST TIME OUT
Despite being outshot 16-7 last Saturday against UTRGV, NM State was able come out with a 1-0 victory and gave its seniors a victory sendoff. After a foul ridden first half, UTRGV came out firing at the Aggies to the tune of 12 shots to NM State's three. However, freshman keeper Raeann Garcia was able to come up with huge saves early on and then again in the 81st minute.

Shortly after Garcia's save, Audriana Chavez connected with Aileen Galicia on the cross to give NM State the eventual game-winner in the 84th minute. The win also improved NM State's record when playing its final regular-season game at home to 4-1-0.
