Colorado Springs, Colo. – The New Mexico State women's diving team performed well in the first day of competition at the Air Force Diving Invite. Four divers placed in the top half of the 1-meter springboard competition while three placed in the top half of the platform event.
"The girls had the best showing they have ever had in this meet," diving coach
Miranda King said, "There were several Pac-12 schools at this meet and it is huge that our divers finished in the top 32."
MacKinna Hauff led the team in the 1–meter springboard. Hauff finished in 13th with a score of 246.6.
Sheridan Decker finished with a score of 227.1 in the event.
Raina Brommer (225.7) and
Abigail Watson (223.55) placed just behind Decker.
Watson placed fifth in the platform diving as the junior scored 209.15 in the event. Decker had the second best finish for the Aggies as she scored 192.85 to finish 15th.
Alexis Tupponce would also finish in the top half of the competition with a 181.9 score.
"We spent about 12 hours at the pool today and the girls were exhausted, but they pushed through and their hard work this season paid off today," King said. "Tomorrow they compete in the 3-meter springboard and I am excited to see what will come of it"
Women's preliminaries are set to begin at 11 a.m.
