WACO, Texas – The No. 10 seeded New Mexico State equestrian team faced off with No. 7 Fresno State in the first round of the NCEA Championships on Thursday. The Aggies season came to an end in Texas with a 10-5 loss to the Bulldogs.
In the opening events, NM State fell 3-0 in reining. After the sweep, the team battled back for a 2-2 tie in equitation over fences.
Karianna Knezevich earned 162 points and
Madison Brayman added 167 for the team's first two points.
The Aggies then put up another 2-2 tie in equitation on the flat. This event saw Remington Wilkie and Brayman gain the points for NM State with scores of 152 and 175, respectively.
The contest closed out with horsemanship and the Aggies dropped the final event 3-1. The sole point for the team was earned by
Haylee Schoonover who put up a total of 143.5.
At the end of the day, NM State fell to an aggregate score of 10-5 across the four events. This event was the final showing for the Aggies in the 2016-17 season. The team ended the year with a 5-8 record.
