Aggies Saddle Up for the NCEA Championships

NM State equestrian heads to Waco, Texas for the National Collegiate Equestrian Association Championships, April 13-15

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State equestrian team travels to Waco, Texas for the NCEA Championships, April 13-15. The 10-seeded Aggies face off against No. 7 Fresno State in the first round on Thursday, April 13.

Coming into the championships, head coach Robin Morris-Walters looks forward to the challenge of facing the higher seeded Bulldogs saying, "We come in to round one prepared to take on UEC (United Equestrian Conference) rival Fresno State. They are a solid team and we know we have to be on point to advance through the tournament. Our plan is to ride every step and lay down precise and polished rides."

Events for the first round start at 8 a.m. MT with Reining and Equitation over Fences. NM State's lineup for Reining features Madison Brayman, Karianna Knezevich, Samantha Perlman and Erica Rosinski. For Equitation over Fences the team will send out Katherine Arnold, Kimberly Ferrante, Kiley Newkirk and Allison Nordvall.

Following the opening events, Equitation on the Flat begins at 1 p.m. with Madison Brayman, Karianna Knezevich, Grace McMurry and Remington Willkie. The first round for the Aggies concludes with Horsemanship at 1:30 p.m. with Katlynn Crine, Morgan Matzdorff, Hallie Padilla and Haylee Schoonover competing for the team.

NM State and Fresno State squared off to open their respective season at the Willis Invitational in Waco, Texas back on September 30. The Bulldogs came away with a narrow victory, 7-6, over the Aggies.

The two squads have a familiarity facing off against one another each season and their rivalry gained traction after Fresno State won the inaugural UEC title in 2015, followed by the Aggies taking home the crown in the second year.
