NM State's Brommer and Hauff to Compete in NCAA Diving Zones

New Mexico State divers Raina Brommer and MacKinna Hauff head to Flagstaff, Ariz. to compete in the 2018 NCAA Diving Zones.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State divers Raina Brommer and MacKinna Hauff travel to Flagstaff, Ariz. where they will compete in the 2018 NCAA Zone E Diving Championships on March 5-7, hosted by Northern Arizona at the Aquatic and Tennis Complex.

"I am really looking forward to this Zone meet," diving coach Miranda King said. "This is always a large meet and this year is no different as there are 65 girls on springboard and 45 on platform. This meet is a lot of fun, but also very intense as only 9 girls qualify to the NCAA Championships. One slightly missed dive can push a diver out of the top 20. Zone E is the toughest zone as it contains the PAC-12 teams, Mountain West, WAC and others. Raina Brommer and MacKinna Hauff have the ability to finish in the top half and potentially make it to the finals on each event, but they will have to be consistent with their dives. Last year at zones MacKinna was 7 points away from making finals on three-meter. With diving, anything can happen. It will all come down to one list to prove they can hang in there will the stronger programs.  No matter what the outcome is, our divers have had an amazing season as a whole."

Brommer qualified for diving zones on Oct. 14 against Northern Colorado when she posted a score of 291.70 in the three-meter diving event and 250.45 in the one-meter dive. As the 2017-18 season progressed, she recorded new career-high scores with 296.3 in one-meter diving and 310.95 in the three-meter category.

Hauff, who hails from Edmonton, Canada, secured a spot in the prestigious event when she broke NM State's record in the three-meter diving class on Nov. 10 against Idaho with a score of 312.20. The previous record was held by Mariesa Cloud (310.02) in 2009.

Events begin with the women's one-meter preliminaries at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 5. At the conclusion of the three-day meet, the top nine finishers for one-meter and three-meter diving, followed by the top eight on platform will advance to NCAA Championships, which will take place later in March.
