CATHEDRAL CITY, CALIF. –  New Mexico State softball lost its fifth straight game Thursday afternoon as the Aggies fell to North Carolina State 7-4.
Samaria Diaz started her fourth game in the circle for the NM State. She was able to get two outs in the first before the Pack pounced on the Aggies.
Kayla Green would come in to relieve Diaz but wouldn't escape unscathed as NM State trailed 7-0 after the first.
In the fourth, NM State was able to get a run on the board. With
Kelsey Horton on first,
Kennedy Johnson singled down the right field line, scoring Horton to give the Aggies their first run of the tournament.
Trailing 7-1, New Mexico State rallied again in the sixth.
Rachel Rodriguez,
Fahren Glackin and Horton each singled to load the bases. Johnson hit a sacrifice fly and Rodriguez was able to score from third to cut into the NC State lead.
In the seventh inning, the Aggies got their bats going once more. With
Haley Nakamura on first,
Amy Bergeson sent a blast down the left field line for an inside-the-park homerun. The rally fell short however, as the Aggies fell 7-4.
NM State moved to 4-6 with Diaz falling to 2-2. Bergeson's homerun was her first of her collegiate career.
