@NMStateSoftball Opens Troy Cox Classic against No. 1 Oklahoma

The Aggies welcome Ball State, Boston University and the two-time defending national champion Sooners for the annual Troy Cox Classic.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State softball team gets set for the annual Troy Cox Classic, which begins on Friday, Feb. 16. The Aggies welcome Ball State, Boston U, University and the two-time defending national champions No. 1 Oklahoma for the three-day tournament. NM State's first contest is set for Friday at 1:30 p.m. MT against the top-ranked Sooners.

Full session passes are $20. Day passes are $12 and single game prices are $7. Kids 12 and under get in free as well as NM State students with their student ID.

WEEKLY WARRIORS
Fahren Glackin and Kayla Green were named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the league announced on Monday. Glackin opened the year batting .800 with a hit in each game of the series and reaching base multiple times in each game. She also posted an .800 slugging percentage and a .917 on-base percentage. The senior tallied four runs and four hits for New Mexico State and drove in one run in each of the victories.

Green opened her 2018 campaign with a pair of wins over the ranked Wildcats. She posted a 1.91 ERA, only allowing a single earned run in each of her appearances and walking just one batter. The junior led the Aggies to their first win over a ranked opponent since 2015 when she pitched 4.0 innings, allowing just four hits and striking out a pair of Kentucky batters. She followed up the performance by pitching 3.1 inning in relief where she allowed just three hits, earning her second win of the season.

RANK IT UP
NM State received votes in both the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) top-25 poll and the USA Softball/ESPN poll following the Aggies 2-1 opening weekend against then-ranked No. 17 Kentucky. This is the first time a New Mexico State squad has received votes in a national poll since Feb. 28, 2012.

Following the first weekend of play, New Mexico State ranks 15th nationally in slugging percentage (.614), 16th in batting average (.375) and 17th in scoring (8.00). Individually, Glackin ranks first nationally in on-base percentage (.917) and third in batting average (.800).

LAST TIME OUT
New Mexico State opened its 2018 campaign by posting a 2-1 record against ranked Kentucky. The Aggies opened the series with a 12-9 victory over the Wildcats. In the nightcap, a grand slam by Kelsey Horton and a pair of home runs by Victoria Castro helped the squad cruise to a 10-6 victory. Despite a two-run homer by Destiny Blueford in the series finale, NM State was unable to complete the sweep and fell in the contest 10-2.

KNOW YOUR FOE: NO. 1 OKLAHOMA
The two-time defending national champions Oklahoma comes into the Troy Cox Classic with a 5-0 record for the 2018 season. The Sooners outscored their opponents 35-4 in their first tournament, posting a team batting average of .359 and a combined 0.82 earned run average.

Paige Parker leads OU in the circle as the senior posts a 0.00 ERA and 3-0 record. Paige Lowary also holds a 0.00 ERA in her three appearances and recorded the win in Oklahoma's season opener against Weber State. On offense, Sydney Romero posts a .533 hitting clip and a .800 slugging percentage. The junior leads the team with eight hits so far, including a double and a homer.

KNOW YOUR FOE: BOSTON UNIVERSITY
Boston University enters the tournament with a 3-2 record this season. The Terriers began their 2018 campaign at the FAU Kickoff Classic where the team defeated Northern Illinois, Duke and Michigan State. As a team, BU posts a 2.00 ERA and a .293 batting average.

Alex Heinen started in all five games for the Terriers, recording a .500 hitting clip including a pair of doubles and a team-high five RBI. In the circle, Ali Dubois leads the BU squad with a 3-1 record and a 0.90 ERA. The freshman appeared in all five contests, tallying a pair of complete games and a shutout against Michigan State.

KNOW YOUR FOE: BALL STATE
Ball State began its season at the FGCU Kickoff Classic, earning a 3-2 record during the opening weekend. The Cardinals fell to Memphis and host Florida Gulf Coast but picked up victories over LIU Brooklyn, North Carolina State and Georgetown. Overall, the Ball State squad comes into the tournament with a 2.19 ERA and a .256 batting average as a team.

Alyssa Rothwell posts a 1.56 ERA in her five appearances this season. The sophomore allowed nine hits in nine innings of work, giving up a pair of earned runs and striking out six batters. On offense, Haley Demnianiuk comes into the weekend with the best batting average on the team as the freshmen is hitting .417. Kennedy Wynn leads the Cardinals with three home runs, 15 RBI and a 1.154 slugging percentage.

COMING UP: BATTLES IN THE LONE STAR STATE
Following the tournament, the Aggies take on Battle of I-10 rival UTEP in a midweek contest in El Paso, Texas, on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. MT. NM State returns to the Lone Star State for a tournament hosted by the Miners on Friday, Feb. 23, The team takes on Portland State at 10:30 a.m. and Idaho State at 1 p.m.
