NM State Director of Athletics Mario Moccia announced the promotion of Dominic Moreno as Director of Sports Medicine

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State Director of Athletics Mario Moccia announced the promotion of Dominic Moreno as Director of Sports Medicine after the retirement of long-time head athletic trainer Mike O'Larey.

"I want to thank Mario for giving me the opportunity," Moreno said. "New Mexico State is a special place for me being an alum. I'm excited to give back to the City of Las Cruces and the NM State community. I look forward to the new challenges in addition to keeping our student-athletes healthy for continued success on and off the field."

Moreno was elevated to his new role after spending the last decade at New Mexico State, four of which has been spent as the associate athletic trainer. Since his return to Las Cruces in 2007, Moreno has worked with men's basketball and men's golf in addition to his current role with the Aggie football team since being named the associate athletic trainer.

Prior to his return to New Mexico State, Moreno served as an assistant athletic trainer at Central Arkansas where he handled day-to-day duties with women's basketball, track & field, men's soccer and baseball. Moreno also served as a clinical instructor, teaching evaluation techniques for upper extremities.

He received his master's degree in education from the University of Incarnate Word in 2006. Moreno oversaw women's soccer, swimming, synchronized swimming, men's basketball and baseball as a graduate assistant in the athletic training department. During his tenure, the women's soccer team qualified for the 2005 NCAA Division II playoffs while baseball competed in the 2004 and 2006 NCAA Regional Championships. In addition, the synchronized swimming team finished third at the NCAA National Championships in 2005 and 2006.

A native of Artesia, N.M., Moreno earned his bachelor's degree in athletic training from New Mexico State University in 2003. As an undergrad, he provided assistance at tournaments and practices with multiple Aggie teams. Moreno and his wife, Deanna, reside in Las Cruces and have two sons, Cillian and Lincoln.
