@PistolPetes1888 Grabs Bronze Medal at the Great American Beer Festival®

Bosque Brewing Co. was awarded a bronze medal for its Pistol Pete’s 1888 Ale this past weekend at the Great American Beer Festival®.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Bosque Brewing Co. received a bronze medal at the 2018 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition. Presented by the Brewers Association, GABF is the largest commercial beer competition in the world and recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States.

The top-three winners in the competition's 102 beer-style categories were announced Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Great American Beer Festival awards ceremony held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colo.

Pistol Pete's 1888 Ale, a brilliant pale straw-colored ale with a light malt sweetness and just enough late addition hops to add flavor and aromatic nuance, was recognized in the Golden or Blonde Ale beer-style category.

Bosque Brewing Co. is headquartered in Albuquerque, N.M., with two locations in addition to its newest addition in the Bernalillo area. The brewery also has two locations in Las Cruces.

"It was great to get back in the groove with another medal (after a drought in 2017)," said Managing Director and one of the founding owners, Gabe Jensen. "Especially since it was for one of my favorite beers we make and a bit of a passion project for my alma mater."

Pistol Pete's 1888, a collaboration between New Mexico State and Bosque Brewing Co., was released in the fall of 2017 throughout the state before the canned version was released this past August.

"I've always considered this beer to be exceptionally good and a personal go-to for me but it's also great to receive this extra degree of validation at GABF®!" said Kevin Jameson, who is one of the founding members. "I'm proud that my NMSU now has an award-winning licensed beer."

The 2018 GABF competition winners were selected by an international panel of 293 expert judges from 8,496 entries, received from 2,404 U.S. breweries, plus 101 Pro-Am and 49 Collaboration entries.

"Pistol Pete's 1888 Ale winning a bronze medal at the Great American Beer Festival is a tremendous accomplishment for Bosque Brewing," Director of Athletics Mario Moccia said. "NM State alums Kevin Jameson and Gabe Jensen have been remarkable friends of Aggie Athletics! With Pistol Pete's 1888 Ale now available in cans, we look forward to it being carried all around the state – which will be a revenue stream for the athletic department and a wonderful branding opportunity for New Mexico State University! Aggie fans already knew that Pistol Pete's 1888 Ale tasted great, but to finish third out of the top 127 beers in the country that entered leaves no doubt about it."
