READY FOR SOME MACTION
The Aggies own an all-time record of 2-4-0 against teams currently in the Mid-American Conference.
Â
Both of NM State's victories over a MAC opponent came against Northern Illinois. The Aggies defeated the Huskies, 27-13, in 1968 and were victorious in their next meeting, as well, winning 24-17 in 1993.
Â
NM State most recently squared off against the MAC in 2012. The Aggies lost to Ohio, 44-22, in the 2011 opener at Aggie Memorial Stadium in Las Cruces, N.M.
Â
AMONG THE NATION'S BEST
Aggie wideouts
Tony Nicholson and
OJ Clark have each hauled in 35 receptions through six games this season, which is tied for 16th most in the country.
NM State is one of only three FBS teams to have two wide receivers with 35 or more receptions this season. Arkansas State (Omar Bayless - 44, Kirk Merritt - 35) and Pitt (Maurice Ffrench - 50, Taysir Mack - 41) are the only other programs with two receivers to catch at least 35 passes this year.
Â
Aggie linebacker
Javahn Fergurson, meanwhile, is once again among the nation's best in tackling. Fergurson, who led the FBS in tackles per game last season, has 63 total tackles through six games this season, which ranks as fourth most in the country.
Â
Fergurson has also been excellent in pass coverage this year. He has logged a career-high five pass breakups this season, carding at least one in three of the Aggies' last four games.
SCOUTING THE CHIPPEWAS
Central Michigan enters Saturday's contest with a 3-3 overall record, including a 2-1 mark in conference play. The Chippewas downed MAC foe Eastern Michigan, 42-16, at home one weekend ago.
Â
The Chippewas are in the midst of a 10-game stretch without a bye. Central Michigan is the only team in the FBS to open the season playing the first 10 weeks, with its first bye set for the weekend of Nov. 9.
Â
Five of those 10 games are in the comfort of their own home. The Chippewas are a perfect 3-0 this season inside Kelly/Shorts Stadium. Since the venue began hosting Central Michigan football games in 1972, the Chippewas are 170-81-4 in their house.
Â
Central Michigan's offense has played well inside Kelly/Shorts Stadium this season, outscoring opponents by a margin of 125- 61. The offense has averaged 41.7 points per game, 549.7 yards per game and 25.3 first downs per game on its home turf. The Chippewas have allowed just two sacks at home this season.
Â
The Chippewa defense has also been stout inside Kelly/Shorts Stadium, allowing just 50.0 rushing yards per game and only one rushing touchdown. Opponents are averaging 286 yards per game when taking on Central Michigan in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
Â
Wide receiver Kalil Pimpleton is the team's most dangerous weapon. He ranks eighth in the nation in receptions (40), accumulating 410 receiving yards through the air and three touchdowns.
Â
Fellow wideout Ty Scott has emerged as one of the team's top playmaker. He is leading the squad with 17.4 yards per reception this season, hauling in 19 balls for 330 yards and two touchdowns.
Â
Halfback Jonathan Ward has rushed for 397 yards and four scores on 53 carries, an average of 7.5 yards per touch, in three games this year. He has rushed for over 100 yards in all three contests while also catching nine passes for 156 yards and a touchdown.
