Swim to Host NAU While Dive Travels to Houston

Aggie swim team set to host WAC rival NAU while divers head to Houston for Houston Diving Invitational.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State swimmers are set to host Western Athletic Conference rival Northern Arizona on Friday, Nov. 22, and Saturday, Nov. 23, while the divers are set to compete at the Houston Diving Invite from Thursday, Nov. 21, until Saturday, Nov. 23.

"I am very excited to see how the girls compete this weekend," diving coach Miranda King said. "It is going to be one of the biggest meets of the season for the girls competing against 45 girls on 1 meter, 3 meter and platform. We are getting our first exposure to platform this season so we are excited about that. Lily Ellis and Italia Aranzabal have been training hard the last two months through some ups and downs, but they are in a great place going into this weekend."

The divers get things going on Nov. 21 with prelims beginning at approximately 11 a.m. and finals underway at approximately 6 p.m. each day. Live results are available through divemeets.com.

The swimmers are set to host Northern Arizona for a two-day three-session dual meet beginning on Friday, Nov. 22, at 10:30 a.m. with the 100 Fly, mile Free, 200 IM and 50 Free. There is a second session on Friday starting at 4 p.m. and will include the 400 Medley Relay, 400 IM, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back and the 200 Free Relay. The meet is set to wrap up on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 11 a.m. when the sides contest the 200 Medley Relay, 500 Free, 200 Back, 200 Breast, 100 Free, 200 Fly and 400 Free Relay.

"Despite our dual meet record our team has been training and swimming very well," head coach Rick Pratt said. "We've been dealing with some early injuries and illnesses, but have pushed through that and I'm excited to have a meet where everyone is ready to go.  NAU brings out the best of our team and this weekend will be a great opportunity to have some very fast mid-season swims and hopefully break some pool and maybe even program records.  Spreading the events over three sessions provides the swimmers with some breathing room and gives us a chance to see everyone swim their main events, along with different relay options.  NAU again has strong depth and some of the best swimmers in our league, we will need to win close races and take advantage of these opportunities to be successful."

NM State then travels to San Antonio, Texas, to take on UIW on Monday, Dec. 16, before getting a few weeks off for winter break.
