@NMStateWTEN Looks to Build on Home Success in Laramie

The NM State women’s tennis team hits the road this weekend for a pair of matches in Laramie, Wyo.

LAS CRUES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women's tennis team looks to build on last week's success at home as it hits the road this weekend for a pair of matches at the Wyoming Tennis Complex.
 
First up for the Aggies will be Montana State on Saturday, March 2, at 2 p.m. (MT). The Bobcats are schedule to face host Wyoming first on Friday, March 1, before taking the court against the Aggies. Montana State enters this weekend 3-6 overall and 1-2 in Big Sky Conference play with a 2-3 mark on the road and 1-2 record in neutral matches.
 
Annie Walker and Enni Zander pace the team with four wins apiece in singles action. Walker has split time between the No. 1 and No. 2 positions while Zander have played at the No. 4 and No. 5 slots for MSU. In doubles play, the duo of Walker and Sarah Cheverie own a team-best 5-1 mark.
 
The following day, NM State faces Wyoming at 9 a.m. (MT) to conclude the weekend trip. Live stats from the match can be found on the women's tennis schedule page or by clicking here. The Cowgirls are slated to face Montana State (March 1) and UTEP (March 2) before wrapping up three matches in as many days on Sunday, March 3, against the Aggies.
 
Ana Royo leads all players with 13 wins on the season in singles action, nine of which have come in dual play. Maria Oreshkina and Mihaela Kaftanova each have 11 wins each while Ana Fernandez and Tessa van Der Ploeg round up the list of double-digit winners with 10 wins. Meanwhile, doubles team of van Der Ploeg and Elisa Koonik are tied with Kaftanova and Ida Krause for the most wins on the team with eight.
 
New Mexico State will get a couple weeks off before beginning Western Athletic Conference play with its first conference pod in Phoenix against Kansas City (March 22) and UT Rio Grande Valley (March 23).
