@NMStateSoftball Begins WAC Play at Seattle U

The Aggies hit the road for their first conference series against the Redhawks.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State softball team travels to face Seattle U at Logan Field for the squad's first Western Athletic Conference series. NM State takes on SU in a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. MT on Friday, March 29. The series finale on Saturday, March 30 is set for 3 p.m. All games can be streamed for free on the WAC Digital Network.

HORTON HITS A BOOM

Kelsey Horton holds the career total base record for New Mexico State softball. Her eight bases against Lehigh put her over the top, passing Hoku Nohara, US Bank NM State Athletics Hall of Famer, as the leader in the category. The slugger currently posts 461 total bases for her career.

The senior continues to climb in the career record books for other categories. The slugger sits in second for home runs (63) and sacrifice flies (11) while also ranking third for doubles (41) runs scored (183) and RBI (190).

LAST TIME OUT

The Aggies swept North Dakota last weekend, outscoring the Fighting Hawks 16-2 during the three-game series. In the 3-0 victory, Samaria Diaz picked up the shutout win, pitching a complete game while also recording a career-best 11 strikeouts. In the 8-0 run-rule victory, Kayla Green allowed just one hit in her five innings pitched.

SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS

Seattle U enters the series at 22-11 on the season and 2-1 in conference play. As a team, SU is batting .302 while recording a 2.10 ERA. The Redhawks took down Kansas City 6-3 and 5-3 before falling in the series finale 7-5. The team leads the conference in batting average, slugging percentage (.477), on base percentage (.383), runs scored (182), hits (268), RBI (161), homers (32), total bases (423) and ERA.

Kaylee Ree earned WAC Hitter of the Week honors following SU's conference opening series last weekend. The senior hit .500 with a .917 slugging percentage in a WAC series win at Kansas City. She was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in all three games, adding a home run in the first game and doubles in the last two contests. In the circle, Carley Nance leads the pitching staff, holding a 1.43 ERA and an 11-5 record this season. The sophomore posts 93.0 innings of work and has struckout 61 so far.

COMING UP: HOME SWEET HOME

Following the series at Seattle U, the Aggies welcome New Mexico for a midweek clash at the NM State Softball Complex. First pitch from the doubleheader on April 2 is set for 4 p.m.
