TEMPE, Ariz. - A shortened 2020 season did not affect the performance of the NM State women's tennis team in the classroom.
The Aggies were one of 244 NCAA Division I women's tennis teams from around the nation who were recognized as Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Teams. As a team, the Aggies generated a collective GPA of 3.93 for the academic year - easily meeting the ITA All-Academic Team requirement of a 3.2.
In addition to their team accolade, the Aggies saw seven of their student-athletes secure ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, too. Harsha Challa, Kaela Di Giulio, Chloe Gavino, Lucija Josipovic, Gavi Kalaga, Bella Nguyen and Neus Torregrosa all met or exceeded the 3.5 GPA requirement needed to be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete. All told, 1,430 NCAA Division I women's tennis student-athletes from around the nation were named ITA Scholar-Athletes.Â
NM State went 2-6 through its 2020 season - one which was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Aggies picked up their first win of the season on Saturday, Feb. 1, by taking down in-state rival New Mexico by a 4-3 tally.Â
