ORLANDO -
After being recognized as the top women's tennis coach in the region this summer, NM State bench boss Emily Wang is in the running for the title of best in the nation.

In an announcement made by the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA), Wang has been named a finalist for the organization's 2020 Steve Wilkinson College Coach of the Year. The winner is set to be announced at the USPTA's World Conference Virtual Event on Wednesday, September 23.

Wang, who enters her fourth season in charge of the Aggies' women's tennis program in 2020-21, earned the title of USPTA Southwest Region College Coach of the Year in June of this year for her efforts in leading the Aggies.

Heading into the 2020 season, NM State was coming off of a 2019 WAC Tournament title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. Before the COVID-19 pandemic put an end to their season, the Aggies picked up a pair of wins including the first triumph over in-state rival New Mexico since 2012.

That 2019 trip to the NCAA Tournament was the program's first appearance there since 2015. Wang has also prepped five All-WAC performers through her three seasons in Las Cruces while stressing the importance of the student-athlete model. The Aggies have been recognized as an ITA All-Academic Team in each of her three years as the program's leader while the team's multi-year APR of 1,000 has stayed perfect for each of the last six seasons.
