LAS CRUCES, N.M. -
Sage Doxtater remains one of the Canadian Football League's top draft prospects.Â
The New Mexico State offensive lineman is ranked eighth overall in the CFL Scouting Bureau's second edition of the top-20 prospects eligible for the 2021 CFL Draft. The list was released on Wednesday, Jan. 20.
Doxtater is the third-ranked offensive lineman, behind only top-ranked overall prospect Alaric Jackson (Iowa) and seventh-ranked overall prospect Liam Dobson (Maine).
The CFL Scouting Bureau, comprised of CFL scouts, as well as player personnel directors and general managers from the league's nine clubs, releases its rankings three times each year: in the fall, winter and spring.
Doxtater, a three-year starter for the Aggies, was limited to four games when NM State last took the field during the 2019 campaign. Battling a nagging injury, he made three starts after missing the first half of the 2019 season due to the injury.
The redshirt senior could become the first NM State football student-athlete selected in the CFL Draft since former Aggie offensive lineman Trevor Kine was taken by the now-defunct Ottawa Renegades in the second round (13th overall) of the 2003 draft.Â
Former NM State offensive lineman George Hudson (2000), defensive back Earl Knight (1991) and defensive back Jeff MacDonald (1988)Â have also heard their names called in the draft's history.
