TUCSON, Ariz. - The Aggies, powered by five freshmen, made their long-awaited return to the golf course on Monday.
Matthew Jackman paced New Mexico State in his first collegiate round, firing a team-best eight-over-par 79 on the opening day of the Arizona Intercollegiate at Sewailo Golf Club in Tuscon, Ariz. The Corley, England, native carded one birdie during the round and is tied for 54th entering tomorrow's action.
Aidan Thomas and
Trey Diehl both came in right behind Jackman at nine-over-par 80. Newcomer
Mauricio Figueroa, who transferred to NM State from Arkansas, finished his first round as an Aggie at 10-over 81.
Scott Rescigno rounded out the fivesome with a 12-over-par 83 on the day. As a team, the Aggies sit in 17th place at 36-over 320 after the first day of action.
The second round tees off at 10:10 a.m. MT tomorrow for NM State. Host Arizona sits atop the leaderboard at even-par 284.
