EL PASO - By starting off strong with a win in doubles play and following up with victories in five of its six singles bouts, the NM State women's tennis team picked up its first win of the year Friday afternoon by taking down Seward County CC 6-1 at the El Paso Swim and Tennis Center.
DOUBLES
• At no point through Friday's match did the Aggies trail and the home team's domination started in doubles action. NM State's flight three tandem of Miranda Bishard and Lucija Josipovic started things with a win before Chloe Gavino and Bella Nguyen followed suit on line two.
• Harsha Challa and Gavi Kalaga wrapped up NM State's clean sweep of tandem play on the top line. All three of the doubles' scores were 6-3.
SINGLES
• Seward County CC took flight six by default, but Bishard gave the Aggies the lead right back with her 6-2, 6-1 win over Maria Garcia on line four.
• Kalaga kept the Aggies rolling thanks to a 6-3, 6-2 triumph against Chiara Matteodo in flight three play and Nguyen clinched NM State's victory with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Lorena Torrico on the fifth line.
• Challa (6-3, 6-3) was a top-line winner against Justince Lespes and Gavino (6-4, 6-3) closed out the day with a two-set triumph against Lucia Popluharova in second-flight play.
COMING UP NEXT
• The Aggies will close out their three-match weekend Saturday morning in El Paso, Texas, when they face off against C-USA foe UTSA. First serve from the El Paso Swim and Tennis Center is set for 11:00 a.m.
