Morales and Smith Post Career-Best Finishes at The Big Texan

KERRVILLE, Texas - Alvaro Morales and Garrison Smith each finished tied for fifth to give the Aggies its best finish of the 2020-21 season at The Big Texan Tuesday morning in Kerrville, Texas. As a team, the Aggies finished third after posting a season-best score of 866 (+2). Abilene Christian jumped from third to first to win the tournament with a score of 860 (-4).

Morales jumped three spots on the leaderboard in the final 18 holes after firing a 72 (E). After shooting a 38 (+2) on the front nine, Morales picked up four birdies in the final nine holes including back-to-back birdies on the 17th and18th holes to get himself back to even-par and into the top five for the tournament. Smith was unable to hold onto his 36-hole lead but still managed to tie for fifth after a final round 76 (+4). Both Morales and Smith posted scores of 215 (-1) over 54 holes which are the two lowest scores by an Aggie this season.

Aidan Thomas finished off the tournament with an even-par 72 to snag his second top 15 finish of the year. Thomas finished tied for 14th after firing a 220 (+4) over the course of three rounds.

Scott Rescigno saw the biggest jump of the day for the Aggies as he fired his best round of the tournament with a one-under 71, jumping five spots to finish tied for 24th. Tyler Diehl rounded out the Aggie lineup with a three-over 75 in the final round.

The Aggies will be back in the state of Texas on Apr. 5-6 for the Bayou City Collegiate Classic in Houston, Texas.
