Aggies Bounce Back with 6-5 Win Over Seattle U

SEATTLE, Wash. - The NM State softball team (16-15) took a 4-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back in a 6-5 win over Seattle U (15-15) Saturday afternoon at Logan Field in Seattle, Wash. The win snapped a six-game losing streak to the Redhawks dating back to 2019.

After putting up just five runs in two games yesterday against the Redhawks, the Aggies struck for four runs in the first inning. Matalasi Faapito knocked in her 24th RBI of the year on a double to left center to score Hailey Tanori. Kayla Bowen the smacked her sixth home run of the year to give the Aggies the 4-0 lead.

The Redhawks responded with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first to make the game 4-2. The teams were scoreless for the next two innings until the Redhawks tied the game up in the bottom of the fourth. The Aggies responded right away with a sacrifice fly from Hope Banales that would score Antuantett Dean. Maya Martinez reached on an error, and Ramsay Lopez would score to extend the Aggies lead to two. Felicia De La Torre came in to relieve Faapito in the fifth inning and was phenomenal, giving up just one run on one hit while striking out four Redhawks.
