NM State Dominates UT Permian Basin 7-0 in 2021 Home Debut

Aggies come up with second shutout win of 2021

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Home court domination.

That was the mission of the NM State tennis team in its first match at the NM State Tennis Center in 455 days as the Aggies took down UT-Permian Basin 7-0 Saturday afternoon.

DOUBLES
• Corey Clarke and Martin Simecek got the Aggies' Saturday started on the right foot, coming up with a 6-3 triumph over Hector Flores and Roberto Garcia in flight two action.
• Up on the top line, Louis Menard and Jordy Visser locked up the doubles point with a strong 6-2 victory against Paul Schweiger and Aditya Iyer.
• Finishing up the Aggies' doubles point sweet was Nicolas Buitrago and Petr Stavrovskij. NM State's flight three pairing produced a 6-4 victory in their battle with Fernando Siqueira and Lorenzo Lopes de Oliveira.

SINGLES
• Wanting to make sure they were playing their best tennis ahead of the upcoming WAC Tournament, the Aggies didn't let up once singles play got going. Visser began NM State's perfect day of one-on-one play with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Schweiger in flight five play.
• Buitrago made matters 3-0 in favor of the home team when he secured a 6-3, 6-1 win over Iyer up on line two.
• Clinching the match for NM State was Clarke over in fourth-flight play. The redshirt freshman picked up a 6-4, 6-1 win over Garcia to ensure victory for the hosts.
• Menard moved into double-digits wins territory in singles play with his latest top-flight triumph. The junior took down Enrique Sanchez 6-1, 6-4 to keep his team's hopes of a shutout victory alive.
• Simecek scored a 6-3, 7-5 win over Jorge Garcia, marking the first time in 2021 the Aggie has won back-to-back singles showdowns.
• Putting the finishing touches on the Aggies' shutout was Stavrovskij in flight six play. NM State's freshman fought his way to a 6-0, 6-3 triumph against Lopes de Oliveira.

COMING UP NEXT
• In a little less than two weeks, the Aggies make a run at the WAC Tournament title. NM State is set to serve as the host institution for the 2021 WAC Men's Tennis Tournament which is set to begin Friday, April 30. The Aggies will be the second seed for the championship event with their opponent and match time to be announced at a later date.
