NM State Suffers 4-0 Shutout Loss at Arizona State

Aggies head to Texas next week in search of first win

TEMPE, Ariz. - Facing a Pac-12 program for the first time in 2022, the NM State women's tennis team found itself unable to get anything going in a 4-0 loss to Arizona State Saturday at the Whiteman Tennis Center.

DOUBLES
• Arizona State obtained a 1-0 lead by outlasting NM State in tandem action on lines two and three.
• Gavi Kalaga and Miranda Bishard grabbed a trio of games, but Sedona Gallagher and Cali Jankowski doubled up NM State's pair and won 6-3 in flight three.
• Chloe Gavino and Natsuki Nishimura grabbed just two games when pitted against the Sun Devils' tandem of Giulia Morlet and Marianna Argyrokastriti. Arizona State clinched the doubles point with its 6-2 win in that matchup on line two.

SINGLES
• The top and bottom flights were where the Sun Devils found success quickly. Harsha Challa didn't win a game in a 6-0, 6-0 setback to Morlet in top-flight play while the hosts' lead grew to 3-0 after Georgia Townsend suffered a 6-1, 6-0 setback to Patricija Spaka in flight six.
• Arizona State closed out its shutout win after Gavi Kalaga dropped a 6-4, 6-1 decision against Jankowski in flight five. Gavino had grabbed a 3-2 lead over Domenika Turkovic on line two, but the match was called before she had a chance to force a third set.

COMING UP NEXT
• NM State heads to Texas for a pair of non-conference matches next week. The Aggies will be in Denton, Texas, Friday for a 10:00 a.m. tilt at North Texas before closing out their two-match swing in the Lone Star State Sunday, Jan. 30, at 9:00 a.m. against UT Arlington.
