LAS CRUCES, N.M. – NM State Softball will be in action tomorrow afternoon when they host a trio of exhibition games featuring rival programs New Mexico (UNM) and UTEP.
FIRST PITCH
- Game one will see UNM and UTEP square off at the Softball Complex starting at noon.
- Following that game, the Aggies will battle the Lobos for the first game of their double header starting at 2 p.m.
- After their matchup with the Lobos, the Aggies will face the Miners for the third and final game of the day staring at 4:30 p.m.
AGGIE LINEUP
- The Aggies return 15 players from last season team including eight starters: six position players and two pitchers.
- Among the returners include fifth year graduate standout Kayla Bowen. Last season, Bowen continued her dominance at the plate from the previous season slashing an impressive .369/ .806/ .361. She led the team in hits (59) and was second on the team in home runs (11) and RBIs (41). This stat line earned her a spot on the WAC All-Second Team list, just one of three Aggies to earn All-WAC honors last season (Ramsey Lopez, Kayla Bowen, Jillian Taylor)
- Taylor will also be returning for another season. The Junior out of Spokane, Wash. was second on the team in hits (47) and on base percentage (.448). She also earned a spot next to Bowen on the All-WAC Second Team list.
- The Aggies bring in eight new faces to this year's squad - Three freshman, one sophomore, and four juniors.
- Jazmyn Waddle is one freshman to lookout for. The Arizona two-way standout officially signed with the program towards the beginning of August. During her time at San Manuel HS, she appeared in 22 games - 101 innings as a pitcher and made 84 plate appearances as a hitter. She bolstered a ridiculous hitting line of .710/ 1.469/ .762 leading the entire state in batting average and on base percentage. As a pitcher, she recorded a 1.73 ERA and striking out 207 batters.
RETURNING TO THE CIRCLE
- Laurali Patane and Jordin King both return for their sophomore campaigns.
- The pair of pitchers combined for 122 strikeouts and eleven wins last season.
- King was the go-to arm for Kathy Rodolph last season leading the team in innings pitched (135.0) making 40 appearances over 24 starts including four appearances and two stars in the WAC Tournament last year.
