NM State Claims Two Singles Wins in 5-2 Setback to Louisiana

Feigin, Menard score one-on-one victories

LUBBOCK, Texas - Itay Feigin and Louis Menard each won their singles matches, but the NM State men's tennis team couldn't secure any more wins as the Aggies dropped a 5-2 tilt against Sun Belt Conference foe Louisiana Saturday afternoon at the McLeod Tennis Center on the campus of Texas Tech.

DOUBLES
• Louisiana grabbed the early edge in tandem play when Luca Fe d'Ostiani and Martin Simecek were on the wrong end of a 6-1 decision on line two against Vasil Dimitrov and Orio Fillat Gimenez.
• NM State bounced back with some strong play by Gijs Akkermans and Corey Clarke in third-flight action. The Aggies' duo scored a 6-3 victory over Kacper Dworak and Calin Postea to pull even.
• Everything came down to Louis Menard and Jordy Visser in top-flight action, but the Aggies' first-line pairing was doubled up, 6-3, by Karlo Kajin and Al Sanchez Gonzalez to give the doubles points to the Ragin' Cajuns.

SINGLES
• Each of the four singles matches that finished first were won by Louisiana, clinching the match for the Ragin' Cajuns. That run started in flight two when Simecek was out-dueled by a 6-1, 6-0 score against Sanchez Gonzalez.
• Louisiana moved one point away from victory after Clarke found himself on the wrong end of a 6-2, 6-4 showdown with Fillat Gimenez in flight three play.
• Akkermans was unable to replicate his singles success from the previous day, falling 7-6, 6-4, in his sixth-flight fracas with Postea.
• On line five, Visser dropped a 6-3, 7-5 matchup with Dimitrov which pushed Louisiana's lead to 5-0.
• Able to close things out strong, Feigin snapped a two-match losing skid in one-on-one play. The Aggies' freshman worked his way past Dworak, 6-4, 6-2, to break up the Ragin' Cajuns' shutout bid.
• Menard helped NM State finish on a high note. The Aggies' top-line performer scored a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Kajin for his first win of the weekend. It was Menard's first singles wins since Jan. 28.

COMING UP NEXT
• NM State travels southeast to Corpus Christi, Texas, to take part in the H-E-B Tournament of Champions. The Aggies will play a number of matches from Friday-Sunday at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with a full H-E-B Tournament of Champions schedule expected to be revealed early next week.
